Biker killed after hittting elk

BENEZETTE (AP) — State police say a 52-year-old man has died after his motorcycle collided with an elk in western Pennsylvania.

Troopers from the Ridgway barracks say the dead man is Alvin Shutters Jr., of Weedville.

Police say he was traveling on Route 555 in Benezette Township when he hit the elk about 5:50 a.m. Tuesday. The crash site is in Elk County, so named for the large numbers of the animals that live there, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Police haven’t said if the elk survived the crash.
