U.S. Silica Co. | The Daily News | The Daily News serving Huntingdon, Mount Union, Orbisonia, and Saxton PA HuntingdonDailyNews NOTICE OF FILING OF APPLICATION TO MODIFY NPDES PERMIT Treated Mine Drainage & Storm Water Discharge Pursuant to the “Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act” and the “Clean Streams Law” notice is hereby given that U.S. Silica Company, Ma- pleton Plant located at 12942 Oriskany Road, Mapleton Depot, Pennsylvania, operating under Surface Mining Permit No. 4275SM20A and National Pollu- tion Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit PA0125334, has made ap- plication to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to renew the current NPDES Permit. The mine site is located in and adjacent to Brady Township, Huntingdon County. The permit area is 370.6 acres and is situated South of State Route 655 near the town of Mill Creek. The NPDES Permit currently authorizes the dis- charge of pit water to Saddler Run, Flush Run, Mill Creek, Shaughnessy Run and the Juniata River at Outfalls 005, 006, 008, 009, 010, 011, 013S, and 015. The Mount Union, PA Quadrangle, U.S. Geological Survey 7.5-minute topographic map contains the area described. U.S. Silica, Mapleton Plant, is proposing to utilize the approved NPDES points as previously stated. No changes to the permitted mining plan or ero- sion/sedimentation control plan are proposed under this renewal. A copy of the application is available for public review at Mapleton Plant office at the above Mapleton Depot address and the DEP Ebensburg District Mining Office at the address below. Written comments, objections, or a request for public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to the PADEP, Bureau of District Mining Office, 286 Industrial Park Road, Ebensburg, 15931-4119 PA by July 27, 2018 and must include the person’s name, address, telephone number, and a brief statement of the nature of the comment or objection(s).
